A Non-Profit African Music Label and Directory
From Tuku to Juju, Rumba to Marrabenta, Promote Africa wants to bring you the best in African music. By developing a one-of-a-kind music
directory and non-profit music label, we want to
simplify the way music is presented to listeners, so we are currently
working to:
1) Develop an Online Portal for African music
We want to serve as an online portal for African music, providing
links to online music retailers, music labels, musician sites, and news
content. We want this function to be relevant to users all over the world, especially those on the African continent.
2) Expand Our Services as a Non-Profit African Music Label
Within the comprehensive music directory that we will release, we feature
musicians that our Artists and Repertoire (A&R) division locates.
We have built a non-profit online MP3 Sales Platform to rival existing
operators, but our model reduces the industry standard 35% commission
for online sales to 15%, meaning that artists receive 85% of all MP3
sales made through our sales plaform. Additionally, our 15%
receipts are then invested into a fund to support international music
film projects and album production and promotion. We are the first non-profit international music sales platform.
3) African Music/Film Production
We pursue external funding, via major grants and private contributions,
to conduct philanthropic film projects that promote and preserve
African music and cultures. Our first such project was conducted from
June - August 2008 in Malawi. Click here to learn more. For 2009, we are currently pursuing similar projects in Burundi, Cape Verde, and Egypt.
In meeting our goals, we hope to redirect the current model for online
music promotion and distribution. We want to become a social network
for all African music, a self-compiling music directory if you will.
Until our directory is completed and available online please browse the
musician listing to the right to learn more about some of the musicians
we are working with.
Our staff continues to build our directory and seek out musicians, but
if you have questions, comments, or are a musician interested in
promoting yourself through our site, please complete this form.
For this model to succeed, we need you, the musician, to seek us out.
After all, we're a free service to musicians and listeners alike
