Environmental Sustainability
When screening and selecting cooperatives with which we partner, Promote Africa considers possible negative ecological consequences of each artwork production process. As a result, we either do not enter the partnership or do not carry those specific products. Conversely, when Promote Africa partners with cooperatives that do have green operations, we ensure that their operations are given due attention.
For example, the COSDEC Ondangwa has partnered with the Ohandje Artist Cooperative to develop a glass recycling program. Nine separate Ohandje associations are equipped with glass recycling machines; each association sends its artisans to be trained at the Ondangwa COSDEC; after training, the artisans return to their villages and produce artwork made from recycled glassware.
