From July 1 - August 15, 2008, our film and recording team will convene in Malawi to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. Their aim – to document and record traditional forms of musical expression from all walks of life in this small, incredibly diverse nation. Sponsored by Promote Africa and TV Malawi and inspired by Alan Lomax's journey to collect early blues recordings in the deep American South, Deep Roots Malawi will record a varied compilation of secular individual musicians, small groups and choirs.
